Only two Qatar prices are published by the carmakers themselves, the Tesla Model 3 Standard at QAR 134,990 and the Zeekr 001 from QAR 229,000, so everything else is quoted by the distributor. The list of EV cars in Qatar has grown quickly, but separate the fully electric models from the plug-in hybrids beside them in the same showroom. Several brands described locally as EV brands sell mostly hybrids.

Tesla Qatar
Tesla sells directly with no local dealer, from a store at Doha Festival City and a service centre on Al Markhiya Street, plus mobile service. The Model 3 Standard was announced for Qatar in January 2026 at QAR 134,990, with 534 km of WLTP range and 13.0 kWh/100 km. BYD Qatar
BYD reaches Qatar through Mannai Trading. The line-up is large but mostly plug-in hybrid: the fully electric models are the ATTO 3, SEAL, SEALION 7 and HAN EV, while the SEALION 5, SEAL 6, SONG PLUS, QIN PLUS, SHARK 6 and ATTO 8 are DM-i, DM-p or DMO hybrids. BYD Qatar publishes no prices, and classified-site figures contradict each other, so ask Mannai in writing.
The newer arrivals
ZEEKR arrived through Blue Lake Motors, part of Al Mana Holding, which opened a Msheireb Downtown showroom in February 2025. Zeekr Qatar is unusual in publishing a starting price: the 001 from QAR 229,000, with a 100 kWh battery and 620 km of WLTP range in Long Range rear-drive form; our Zeekr 001 Qatar guide covers the variants. XPENG entered formally in December 2025 with Pioneer Motors, launching the G9 and G6, and AVATR launched in February 2025 with the 11 and 12, now joined by the 07. MG Qatar lists one battery electric car, the MG 4 EV.
Running costs: electricity against petrol at QAR 2.00 a litre
This is where Qatar differs from most EV markets. QatarEnergy's September 2026 prices are QAR 2.00 a litre for Premium and QAR 2.05 for diesel. Cheap petrol narrows the gap, so the saving is real but not the figure European articles quote.
We will not publish a Kahramaa price per kWh: the figures repeated online contradict each other, none carries a dated official citation, and rates differ by customer category. Read the rate off your own bill. Neither Kahramaa nor Woqod publishes a public charging tariff either, so ask before you plug in.
Then take the car's rated consumption, add roughly 10 per cent for charging losses, and multiply by that rate. A Model 3 Standard rated at 13.0 kWh/100 km draws about 14.3 kWh from the wall per 100 km. EV charging in Qatar: the public network
Qatar passed 300 fast chargers in August 2025, the most recent verified national figure. The Ministry of Transport target is more than 1,000 stations by 2030 and 4,000 by 2035. Any precise 2026 total you read is not officially confirmed.
Kahramaa runs the network under Tarsheed. Its Tarsheed Smart EV Charging app, launched in December 2023, finds chargers, shows live availability, starts and stops sessions remotely and tracks consumption. A typical unit is a 50 kW DC charger serving two cars. The fastest public units are Katara at 180 kW, the Shura Council at 150 kW and the traffic department in Madinat Khalifa at 100 kW.
Woqod separately operates 22 chargers at 19 petrol stations, all fast units activated through its app. Tesla has one confirmed Supercharger site, at Doha Festival City, with 12 stalls rated up to 250 kW. Hamad International Airport switched on its first chargers in January 2026.
CCS2 with Type 2 AC is the practical connector standard and Kahramaa's specification endorses CCS and CHAdeMO, but there is no published mandate, so check the car's port.
Home charging and the Kahramaa approval you need first
This is the step most buyers discover too late. Kahramaa updated its EV charger procedures in October 2025, and the rules are specific.
- Residential chargers are AC only, maximum 22 kW. No DC fast charger at home.
- Approval must be obtained in advance through the Kahramaa Service Package System. A Kahramaa engineer stated it is strictly prohibited to begin any installation without consulting Kahramaa first.
- The application must be submitted by a certified electrical contractor, with no-objection letters from the relevant authorities and site plans.
- The charger must be connected to Kahramaa's smart platform.
- The property owner carries responsibility for operation, maintenance and safety, so tenants and apartment residents must go through the building owner.
Kahramaa treats a residential installation as AC level 1 at around 4 kW or level 2 between 7 and 20 kW, with overcurrent protection at not less than 125 per cent of the charger's maximum load. Qatar's supply is 240 V at 50 Hz, and 22 kW needs three-phase. Check the car before buying the biggest wallbox: its onboard charger sets the ceiling, and an 11 kW car gains nothing from a 22 kW unit.
Warranties, grey imports and what is really covered
Warranty terms vary far more between brands than the cars do, and this is where a few minutes of reading saves real money.

Tesla's Middle East new vehicle limited warranty, effective July 2024, is the only one here committing to a minimum capacity, guaranteeing at least 70 per cent retention over the battery term. It excludes tyres, alignment, wiper blades, brake pads, filters, glass and non-genuine parts, and requires you to return to your warranty region for service. BYD Qatar publishes 6 years or 150,000 km on the vehicle and 8 years or 200,000 km on the battery, with no state-of-health threshold; BYD's longer European Blade terms do not apply here.
On imports, the official Volkswagen importer in Qatar has publicly warned that unauthorised-import electric cars carry no manufacturer international warranty, that parts may be unavailable without an official country release, and that critical software updates only follow it. Ask which warranty region a car's VIN belongs to before you pay.
Qatar's summer heat and what it does to an EV
Doha's average July high is 42.4 degrees, and five months of the year sit at or near 40. Two effects matter and they are often confused.
The first is temporary. Analysis by Recurrent across roughly 29,716 vehicles found about 5 per cent range loss at 32 degrees and 17 to 18 per cent at 37 to 38 degrees, mostly from air conditioning. That range returns when the weather cools.
The second is permanent and slower. Geotab's study of more than 22,700 EVs found average capacity loss of 2.3 per cent a year, hot climates adding roughly 0.4 points, and cars regularly fast charging above 100 kW degrading at 3.0 per cent a year against 1.5 per cent for those that rarely do. In Doha the dominant stress is calendar ageing while parked, not driving. Park in shade, leave the car plugged in during long stays so the thermal system can use mains power, and avoid back-to-back fast charges on a hot pack. The 12 V battery, not the traction pack, is what most often strands people after a Gulf summer.
Servicing an electric car in Qatar
EVs need less routine work than petrol cars, but they are not maintenance-free. Tesla uses condition-based servicing with no fixed interval, covering tyre rotation, cabin filter replacement and periodic brake fluid checks. BYD Qatar publishes no schedule; BYD schedules elsewhere typically run to 12 months or 20,000 km, so ask Mannai for the Qatar booklet.
You are not obliged to use the dealer for everything. Tesla's warranty states you are not required to service at a Tesla centre, while warning that improper repair can void coverage, which is how to read every EV warranty. The sensible split is that warranty work goes to the brand, while out-of-warranty repairs, high-voltage diagnostics, charging port faults and accident work can go to an independent specialist. A checklist before you buy
- Confirm the car is an official import and ask which warranty region the VIN belongs to.
- Get the warranty booklet in writing, and check whether a capacity floor is stated.
- Settle home charging before you order: Kahramaa approval, a certified contractor and, if you rent, the owner's consent.
- Check the onboard AC charger rating before paying for a larger wallbox than the car can use.
- Compare DC claims carefully, because 10 to 80 per cent and 30 to 80 per cent are not the same window.
- Ask where the car is serviced and whether parts are stocked locally.
- Budget for tyres. EVs are heavy, tyres wear faster, and no warranty covers them.
- If you plan to drive out of Qatar, the only land exit is Abu Samra into Saudi Arabia.
