Avatr 12 vs Avatr 11: Specs, Range and Which to Buy in Qatar

Short answer: the Avatr 12 is the better choice if you want a long, low, efficient sedan with the most up-to-date charging hardware, while the Avatr 11 suits buyers who want an SUV-style driving position and the biggest battery. In the Qatar-spec cars listed by the official distributor, the Avatr 12 carries a 94.53 kWh battery rated at 650 km (NEDC) and the Avatr 11 a 116 kWh battery rated at 625 km (NEDC). Both offer dual-motor versions with 425 kW, so the decision comes down to body style, space and how you plan to charge.
This guide compares the two cars side by side for 2026: specifications, real meaning of the range figures, charging, Huawei technology, what is actually on sale in Qatar, warranty questions to ask, and what ownership and maintenance look like once the car is in your driveway.
Key takeaways
- Body style: the Avatr 11 is a coupe-styled SUV; the Avatr 12 is a 5-metre fastback sedan with a 0.21 drag coefficient, according to AVATR Qatar.
- Battery and range in Qatar: Avatr 11 with 116 kWh and 625 km NEDC; Avatr 12 with 94.53 kWh and 650 km NEDC.
- Power: both list 425 kW and 650 Nm in dual-motor form, with a rear-wheel-drive Luxury trim below.
- Charging: AVATR Qatar quotes 0–80% in 35 minutes for the 11 and 30 minutes for the 12 on a fast charger.
- Availability: both models launched in Qatar on 24 February 2025; the official Qatar site lists battery electric trims only.
- China is ahead: a refreshed Avatr 12 with a 98.07 kWh Qilin battery launched in China in April 2026, but it is not yet confirmed for Qatar.
Avatr 11 vs Avatr 12: what kind of cars are they?
Avatr is a premium electric brand backed by Changan, Huawei and CATL. The official AVATR Qatar website explains that both cars sit on the CHN intelligent electric vehicle platform co-developed by the three companies, and use CATL ternary lithium batteries with thermal management.
The Avatr 11 came first. It launched in China on 8 August 2022 as a large, coupe-styled SUV with a high seating position and a sloping roofline. The Avatr 12 followed on 10 November 2023 as a flagship sedan with a fastback shape, and it is the longer and lower of the two. Both reached Qatar together, as CnEVPost reported at the February 2025 launch, which made Qatar Avatr's second market in the Middle East.
If you already own one and want model-specific servicing, our Avatr service page covers the brand as a whole.
Avatr 11 vs 12 comparison table (Qatar specification)
The figures below come from the model pages on AVATR Qatar's site for the Avatr 11 and the Avatr 12. Where the two cars are identical, it is because they share the same dual-motor hardware.
| Specification | Avatr 11 | Avatr 12 |
|---|---|---|
| Body style | Coupe-styled SUV | Fastback sedan |
| Trims listed in Qatar | Luxury RWD, Performance AWD, Premium AWD | Luxury RWD, Performance AWD, Premium AWD |
| Battery | 116 kWh NCM | 94.53 kWh NCM |
| Range (NEDC) | 625 km | 650 km |
| Fast charging 0–80% | 35 minutes | 30 minutes |
| Motor power (dual motor) | 230 kW rear + 195 kW front, 425 kW total | 230 kW rear + 195 kW front, 425 kW total |
| Maximum torque | 650 Nm | 650 Nm |
| Length x width x height | 4,880 x 1,970 x 1,601 mm | 5,020 x 1,999 x 1,450 mm |
| Wheelbase | 2,975 mm | 3,020 mm |
| Weight | 2,425 kg | 2,300 kg |
| Drag coefficient | Not listed | 0.21 |
Two things stand out. First, the Avatr 12 goes further on a smaller battery, which is what a lower, slipperier body and 125 kg less weight deliver. Second, the Avatr 12 is 140 mm longer and 45 mm longer between the wheels, while the Avatr 11 is about 150 mm taller, which is where its SUV feel comes from. Detailed pages for each car are on our Avatr 11 and Avatr 12 service pages.
Avatr 12 range and Avatr 11 range: how to read the numbers
Range figures for these cars appear under three different test cycles, and mixing them up is the most common source of confusion online.
- NEDC is the older European cycle. It is what AVATR Qatar uses: 625 km for the Avatr 11 and 650 km for the Avatr 12.
- CLTC is the Chinese cycle and usually gives the highest numbers. CnEVPost reports 760–815 km CLTC for the 2025 Avatr 11 with its 116.79 kWh battery.
- WLTP/WLTC figures sit closer to real-world driving than either of the above.
None of these cycles is designed for a Doha summer with the air conditioning working hard, at motorway speed. Treat the official number as a comparison tool between the two cars, not as a promise of how far you will drive. Our guide to EV batteries in Qatar's summer heat explains why hot-weather range is lower and what helps.
The 2026 Avatr 12 in China
Avatr refreshed the Avatr 12 in China on 8 April 2026. According to CarNewsChina, the battery electric versions now use a 98.07 kWh CATL Qilin 6C battery with up to 735 km CLTC and 30–80% charging in 10 minutes. A tri-motor version produces 712 kW (955 hp) and reaches 100 km/h in 2.71 seconds.
At the time of writing, the AVATR Qatar page still lists the 94.53 kWh battery, so check with the distributor which version you are being offered before comparing prices or range claims.
Are there hybrid (EREV) versions?
Yes, in China. Both cars are sold there as extended-range electric vehicles (EREV), which add a petrol generator to a smaller battery. The 2025 Avatr 11 EREV uses a 39.05 kWh CATL Freevoy battery with 225 km of CLTC electric range, and the 2026 Avatr 12 EREV uses a 52.01 kWh LFP battery with 350 km CLTC electric range and 1,260 km combined, according to CarNewsChina. The AVATR Qatar site, however, lists only battery electric trims for both models.
Charging: which Avatr charges faster?
On the Qatar-spec figures, the Avatr 12 is slightly quicker, at 30 minutes from 0–80% on a fast charger against 35 minutes for the Avatr 11. The difference is small because the 11 is filling a larger battery.
The bigger gap is between generations. Avatr's global site says the latest Avatr 12 uses an 800V silicon carbide platform with up to 560 kW peak charging power and 30–80% in 10 minutes. That speed depends on both the car version and a charger able to deliver it, so it only matters if the refreshed model reaches Qatar and you use high-power public chargers.
For most owners, home or workplace AC charging overnight will cover daily driving in either car. Our EV charging guide for Qatar covers home charging and the public network.
Tech: Huawei ADS and HarmonyOS
Huawei's software is a major reason people shortlist Avatr, but the details depend heavily on market and model year.
- Driver assistance: CnEVPost reported that the 2025 China-market Avatr 11 used three Huawei LiDARs with Huawei ADS 3.0. Avatr's global site now lists HUAWEI ADS 5 for both the Avatr 11 and Avatr 12, while CarNewsChina describes the April 2026 China Avatr 12 with Huawei Qiankun ADS.
- Infotainment: both cars use Huawei's HarmonyOS in China, and Avatr's global site lists HarmonySpace 5 for the Avatr 12.
- Qatar cars: the AVATR Qatar model pages do not state an ADS or HarmonyOS version, and the site notes that some software functions arrive through over-the-air updates.
In practice, ask the dealer to show you which driver-assistance features and apps work on the car you are buying, in Qatar, in English or Arabic. Features developed for Chinese roads and services do not always carry over. If software issues appear later, EVS offers firmware and software update services.
Inside, both cars lean on luxury. AVATR Qatar lists a 25-speaker audio system for each, and the Avatr 12 adds a panoramic sunroof and dual 50W wireless charging. In its drive of the China-market Avatr 11, Carscoops praised the interior and HarmonyOS, but criticised numb steering and a small rear window that leaves the driver relying on cameras.
Avatr in Qatar: availability, showrooms and warranty
The Avatr 11 and Avatr 12 went on sale in Qatar on 24 February 2025. Avatr's agreement for the Qatari market was signed on 21 August 2024 and was reported as being with Al Attiya Motors. The official AVATR Qatar site describes the brand's launch by Elaf Motors, Changan's distributor in Qatar, and lists the AVATR 07 alongside the 11 and 12.
AVATR Qatar's showroom page lists the Changan main showroom in Bin Mahmoud, a Changan showroom on Salwa Road in Al Aziziyah, and a Changan service centre in the Industrial Area.
Warranty: we could not find official Avatr warranty terms for Qatar published on the distributor's site. Before you sign, ask for the vehicle warranty and the high-voltage battery warranty in writing, including years, kilometres and any minimum battery capacity. If you plan to keep the car beyond the factory cover, compare options such as extended warranties.
Price: AVATR Qatar does not publish prices online, so contact the distributor for a current quote on the exact trim.
Ownership and maintenance
Both cars are battery electric in Qatar form, so there is no engine oil, spark plugs or gearbox to service. The priorities are different.
- Battery and cooling system: the high-voltage battery and its thermal management do the hardest work in Gulf heat. A periodic battery health and thermal management check gives you a record of the pack's condition.
- Tyres and suspension: at 2,300–2,425 kg these are heavy cars, and weight is felt by tyres, alignment and suspension parts.
- Brakes: regenerative braking does much of the slowing, which can leave brake discs little used; they still need regular inspection.
- Air conditioning: in Qatar the cabin climate system runs for much of the year and should be kept in good condition.
- Software: keep over-the-air updates current, since AVATR Qatar notes that some functions are delivered that way.
- Sensors and cameras: after any bodywork, driver-assistance sensors and cameras need to be checked, which matters more on a car with rear visibility as limited as the Avatr 11.
Avatr 11 or Avatr 12: which should you buy?
Choose the Avatr 12 if
- You want the longest official range (650 km NEDC) and the more efficient car.
- You prefer a low, sporty sedan and more length inside the cabin.
- You want the model that Avatr is updating first, including the 800V charging hardware of the refreshed version.
Choose the Avatr 11 if
- You want a higher seating position and SUV-style entry and exit.
- You value the largest battery (116 kWh) for longer trips between charges.
- You are comfortable relying on cameras for rear visibility.
For most Qatar buyers who drive mainly in and around Doha, both cars have far more range than daily use needs. Take a test drive of each, sit in the rear seats, and confirm the exact specification, software features and warranty before deciding.
